Rendezvous at The Sire Museum Restaurant

I has a date at The Sire Museum Restaurant.

A perfect place for a romantic rendezvous.

A place to wine and dine and just have a great conversation after enjoying the scrumptious meal.

Autumn likes the white one

While John likes it red

Service was pretty good. Dinner was served rather quickly. Lucky for me coz I was starving!

Yummy mac and biggie prawns for me!

Lamb shank with extra mint sauce for my dude!

Ready to take on the prawns!!

The hungry man and his dinner!

The nice setting just made the dining experience even better than it already is.

The ambience was sOoooOo romantic. Got me feeling all lovey dovey.. *grinnn*

Just a brief background of the restaurant, The Sire Museum Restaurant in the financial district of Georgetown. The restaurant is inside a building ideally situated in No.4, King Street which belongs to the Yeap Chor Ee family. This building has been restored and beautifully refurbished and turned into a museum cum restaurant which serves delicious food.

After dinner we toured around the restaurant and of course we took pictures and did some cam whoring.

Cam whoring - White colonial setting

Cam whoring – Nyona/ antique setting

And when you’re done with dinner and touring around and ready to take a leak…. Guess what?

The toilet isn’t only sparkling clean but they even have a canggih manggih toilet seat!

The toilet seat cleans, rinse and blow dries your bootie :D

Seriously, which restaurant caters to your every need like The Sire?

Definitely a place to try out for a cosy meal!

Relationships- A Jigsaw Puzzle or Lego?

This metaphor suddenly struck me. Are relationships jigsaw puzzles or Lego pieces? Does it make any sense to you at all?

Let me explain this with a scenario:

Boy meets girl. Girl meets boy. Boy approaches girl, takes girl to fancy restaurants, serenade her with love songs and poems. Girl falls in love. Boy and girl walk hand in hand.

Yes, a typical romantic love story but this isn’t the end. It’s just the beginning of many great things ahead. But how is this game of love played? What are the rules of the game? Is it a jigsaw puzzle or pieces of Lego to be completed?

Jigsaw puzzle:

A game that requires patience, effort and persistence. As long as you are willing to put in the time and effort the game will complete as expected like a perfect romantic bedtime story. Every piece of the puzzle will eventually fall into place and complete a magnificent piece of art. Regardless of the time/ method/ strategy you take to complete the puzzle, the outcome will be the same. A happy ending. The outcome of the game has been predetermined. They are meant for each other regardless of the course of the relationship. When played by 2 people, the puzzle can still be completed even with the absence of speech and communication. Might take longer to complete but it sure as hell will still achieve the ultimate goal.

Lego pieces:

They come in various colours, shapes and sizes. A game that requires creativity, effort, persistency, and vision. When it’s played by 2 different individuals, you need great communication skills, understanding of the ultimate infrastructure which is to be built at the end. The lack of communication/creativity/ persistency or vision will make this game a fail. You either end up building something which is way off from what you expected it to be and end up hating the whole building coz it looks like an abstract sculpture more than a castle which you intended to built in the first place. Or the Lego pieces will either end up on the stairs or as tall skinny buildings. This game requires a lot of skill and hard work but if you do complete the building, the satisfaction that you get outweighs all obstacles you previously had.

While we’re in this game we often have doubt ourselves if we will ever complete the building. And the common problem that we would face is that we never have enough pieces to do what we really wanted to do, or we didn’t have the right pieces. We’d often just give up instead of trying to improve our Lego skills using the pieces we did have. We face the risk of putting so much effort in the game and end up building just a piece of crap.

So ultimately, is this game of love made of puzzles which will eventually fall into place naturally or are they Lego pieces which requires careful planning every step of the way?

Autumn the Tuition Teacher

Besides working as an accountant, Autumn is a tuition teacher. Yes. LOL. You heard me loud and clear. I am giving out tuition lessons during the weekends on a part time basis at a tuition centre to just fill my time and learn some additional skills. Money isn’t my main motivation. I am more interested in learning how to teach these bunch of lil rascals. And perhaps I can guide my children with their school work on day.  I have always had an interest in early childhood education.

My lil tuition class.

See how discipline and hardworking my students are?
Brings me great joy to see them improve in their work week after week!

I am currently giving BM and English tuition at the centre. And this has gotta be the best essay I have ever seen from the class.

“Pagi itu pagi minggu. Cuaca cukup sejuk sehingga mencapai takat suhu beku.

Dia melanggar emak saya. Emak saya tercampak ke dalam gaung. Dia menjerit "Adoi!".

Note: just kidding. This essay isn’t from my class. But I just thought it was superr funny. Just had to share it with you guys!!

Love Quote- Madagascar 2

Melman’s confession to Gloria
“That’s not it. Listen mototo you better treat this lady like a queen. Because you... you my friend, you’ve found yourself the perfect woman. If I was ever so lucky to find the perfect woman, I would give her flowers every day. And not just any flowers ok? Her favourites are orchids. White. And I’d bring her breakfast every day. 6 loaves of wheat toast with butter on the side. No crusts. The way she likes it. I’d be her shoulder to cry on and her best friend. And I’d spend every day trying to think of how to make her laugh. She has the most… most amazing laugh. That’s what I would do, if I were you. But I’m not, so you do it.”

I love you Gloria, I always have!

I cried.
Reminded me of someone who once said First Love is Forever Love.

Lean meat, poultry, fish, shellfish, eggs, legumes, broccoli, sunflower seeds

Citrus fruits, legumes, whole grains

All plant sources of food, especially dark and brightly colored fruits and vegetables.

Specific foods that have the most powerful preventative effect

  • Beans (or legumes), which include lentils and peas, are rich in fiber and contain several chemicals that boost immunity to cancer. Saponins have shown the ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in different tissues; protease inhibitors slow down cancer cells from multiplying and suppress proteases, potent cell destroyers; and phytic acid slows the growth of tumors. A study of 3,237 men of different ethnic backgrounds showed that the risk for prostate cancer was 38 percent lower in those who ate the most amount of beans, as compared to those who ate the least amount.
  • Berries are good sources of vitamin C and fiber, as well as a wonderful substance called ellagic acid, which has been found in laboratory studies to prevent cancers of the skin, bladder, lung, esophagus and breast. Strawberries and raspberries are particularly high in ellagic acid, and blueberries are loaded with a class of anti-oxidants as powerful as any seen. So splurge on berries in your morning cereal.
  • Cruciferous vegetables include broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, kale, Swiss chard, and bok choy. Substances in these vegetables have shown the ability to stop the growth of cancer cells in laboratory studies, particularly by regulating a complex system of enzymes that provide a good line of cancer defense. High consumption of cruciferous vegetables has been associated with a decreased risk for lung, stomach and colorectal cancers.
  • Dark Green Leafy Vegetables like spinach, romaine lettuce, leaf lettuces, kale, mustard greens, collard greens, and Swiss chard all contain high amounts of fiber, folate and a wide range of anti-oxidants which attack and remove hazardous free radicals from the body. Researchers have found that carotenoids in dark green leafy vegetables are effective in inhibiting the formation of breast and skin cancer tumors, and preventing lung and stomach cancer. High folate levels in men who ate diets rich in green leafy vegetables have been correlated with a reduced risk of lung cancer, particularly among men who smoke. Results from the Iowa Women’s Health Study showed a 44%lower risk rate for breast cancer in women who ate the most green leafy vegetables, as compared to those who ate the least.
  • Flaxseed is the best known dietary source for a substance called lignans, which appear to replicate the action of estrogen in the body. Flax oil does not contain lignans, though they are often added by the manufacturers. In some short-term human studies, flaxseed consumption modified estrogen metabolism such that there appeared to be a possible protective effect against breast cancer. It has also been shown to inhibit the formation of colon, breast, skin and lung tumors in more than one laboratory study. Flaxseed is also high in omega-3 fats essential fatty acids.
  • Garlic is a natural antibiotic and immune system enhancer, a free radical attacker, and it increases the enzymes that break down carcinogens in the body. Ample research has shown garlic to be one of the best foods to eat for cancer prevention, linking its consumption with slowing or stopping the growth of tumors in prostate, bladder, and stomach tissue, and preventing cancers of the skin and lung. The evidence is particularly compelling for garlic as a preventative agent against prostate and stomach cancers. The Iowa Women’s Health Study found that women who regularly ate garlic had a lower risk for colon cancer. Eat as much of this mighty food as you can stand!
  • Grapes, especially red and purple varieties, contain high levels of resveratrol, which belongs to a classification of plant chemicals called polyphenols. Resveratrol has been shown to slow the growth of cancer cells and inhibit the formation of tumors in lymph, liver, stomach and breast cells.
  • Green Tea is the best source of catechins in the human diet, containing about three times as many catechins as there are in black tea. The catechins found in tea selectively inhibit specific enzyme activities that lead to cancer and may also repair cellular damage caused by free radicals. Green tea has been shown to inhibit or block cancer development in colon, liver, breast, and prostate cells. Studies done in Asia show that frequent use of green tea lowers the risk for bladder, colon, stomach, pancreatic, and esophageal cancers. It has also been shown to aid in preventing recurrence of stage 1 breast cancer.
  • Soy foods, which include tofu, soymilk, soybeans, soynuts, miso (soy paste), tempeh, and soy burgers, are particularly relevant in their effects on hormone-related cancer. Soy contains phytoestrogens, a plant-derived, weaker form of estrogen that some scientists believe replaces the body’s stronger form of estrogen at estrogen receptor sites in the breast, thereby reducing the probability of developing cancer. Several human and laboratory studies have suggested that soy consumption early in life may help protect against breast cancer later in life. However, according to, many doctors worry that phytoestrogens in soy may increase the risk of women who have already had breast cancer. In another human study, men who said they drank soymilk more than once per day for 20 years were found to have 70% lower prostate cancer risk than men who never drank soymilk.
  • Tomatoes contain the phytochemical lycopene, which is also found to a lesser extent in watermelon, papaya, and pink grapefruit. More than 35 studies have confirmed a lower risk of cancer as a result of high lycopene and tomato intake, especially cancers of the prostate, stomach, and lung. Lycopene compounds tend to concentrate in tissues of the prostate, so its protective agency there has received the most attention. Tomatoes have the highest anti-cancer potential when taken in a processed form such as tomato sauce, tomato paste, and tomato juice, because of easier absorption. The PDR website reported a study that found that people with the lowest levels of lycopene are three times more likely to get lung cancer than those with the highest levels. African Americans in the same study were found to have eight times the risk of developing cancer when lycopene levels were lowest.
  • Turmeric is the spice most often used in curry powder. It has an active ingredient called curcumin that has shown resistance to colon, breast, liver, oral, skin, and stomach tumors in laboratory testing on animals.
  • Yogurt consumed in high quantities has been linked in some population studies to reduced risks of cancer, particularly of the breast and colon.

Prevention is better than cure. Start eating right and lead a healthy lifestyle!

Art of listening

When people talk about communication skills, we usually think about speech. How fanciful our speech can be and how certain people can actually sell sand to an Egyptian. Communicating isn’t all about yapping away. We’ve got societies like toastmasters encouraging and promoting the essence of speech. we get so excited about speech that we forgot all about listening.

Effective listening is just as important while communicating. The gentle art of listening is a magnificent gift that we can give to others and ourselves. When we listen to others, we show that what they have to say is worthwhile. Therefore, we instil in them self-worth and confidence. Even if what they have to say doesn’t help us, it will help them. Communication is a two way effort. When it’s one sided, it isn’t communicating. It’s just talking.

Being a good listener isnt easy. In fact, the only easy listening you’ll find is on the radio! What makes listening so difficult? Our ego. Too often we pretend to be listening while our mind is racing, trying to think of something to say. The urge to interrupt and get in a word is powerful. We seem to want to hear ourselves just to confirm and validate our existence. And if our partner allows us to speak, instead of ending after making our point, we continue to speak for our own satisfaction. Not wanting to give up the pleasure of speaking, we then seek to control the conversation by spewing out endless chatter.

It is through listening we become better partners, better friends, better bosses, better subordinates, better mothers, better daughters. Through listening we get to know another person at a whole new level. It strengthens a relationship and deepens a bond.

Also, to get the greatest benefit from the conversation, try to put yourself in the place of the speaker. Attempt to experience their emotions and understand why what theyre saying is significant to them. When this is done, you’ll be able to enlarge your own experiences and understanding. Moreover, it will also make the speaker more apt to open up. Thus, both parties experience an ever-widening expression of growth. Remember, you cant walk a mile in someone else’s shoes until you take off your own, so take them off (set aside your ego). And if you wish to become wise, never stop asking people for their opinion. Is there anything you shouldn’t listen to? Of course! Don’t listen to gossip and negativity, for you are here to spread good, not ill, will.

Can you lend me an ear? I will gladly lend you mine.

Why I don’t blog about private stuff

Some people wonder why I don’t blog about personal stuff. Stuff about my inner thoughts, my feelings, my deepest darkest secrets. Well for one obvious reason is that I wouldn’t want the whole world to know that I am plotting evil plans to take over the world. *giggles* (Think Pinky and the Brain).

Reason number two is that my personal stuff is so boring I doubt it would be of interest to anyone. After all I ain’t Paris Hilton or Britney Spears and if I were them I would be better of making my own reality series than to blog it here. And I bet Ryan Seacrest will be knocking on my door everyday to produce the show.

Reason number three, which is the main reason, is that I’ve got volumes and volumes of personal journals of my own already! And writing the same thing on all over again on totally autumn just simply didn’t make any sense.

Volumes and volumes of private writings.

A sneak peak into my journal

Pages after pages of stuff I rant about

Well some things are just meant to be private.

However I do find writing on personal journals very fulfilling. It allows me to express my thoughts without having to care about being judged, about being criticised, about being sensitive towards the feelings of others. It’s where I let it all out after a bad episode of sh*t! And when I read them back years later, I can really see how I have changed and grow over the years. I see how my style of writing has changed, I see how my priorities have diverged and I see how differently I overcome the same sort of obstacle.

It’s great to just look back in time, on the same day, at the same time but on a different year, what were you doing? Maybe you should take up journal writing? And perhaps share with you kids one day, how mum/dad was like when mum/dad was teen. And perhaps it’s something that you can pass on generation after generation.
