You know that times are bad when….

There ain’t no toilet paper in the toilet cubes at work.

There ain’t got not paper in the printer.

But ironically, my paper work is that high!

Many MNC’s have been affected by the current global economic crisis. What have you done on your part to cope with the current situation? Many are still ignorant towards what is happening and some are starting to feel the pinch. I have been having days off due to comp shutting down for cost reduction purposes. So far it has not affected my personal wealth significantly but if the situation does not improve, it will slowly eat into my savings. There’s only 2 ways to ride out this wave. Either earn more or spend less.

Here are a few tips on reducing your expenses. I am not talking about making major sacrifices. Just lil things that we could do to reduce our expenditure. These are the things that I pledge to do for the next few months just to save some bucks for the rainy season.

#1. Spending less on phone calls.

- My monthly phone bill comes up to about 200 plus a month. I am a phone addict and my yapping habit has got to reduce a lil.

#2. Planning ahead for holidays.

- We all deserve a get-a-way every once in a while. Making careful planning ahead always helps reduce cost and it’s also less stressful. You get cheaper rates when booking ahead. And when everything goes according to plan, all you have to do is chill and enjoy the vacation.

#3. Buy only what’s necessary.

- To be honest, I haven't been shopping for a while now (except occasionally on beauty care products which are essential anyway!).

#4. Eating in more frequently.

- Home cooked food is healthier and yummier anyway!

#5. Look at price tags before heading to the cashier.

- It pays to be a lil more observant. Seriously!

It’s these lil things that we could cut down to keep our finances in check!

Avoid Weatherproofing

Here's another article from Richard Carlson which i could relate to in real life.

Just as we can weatherproof a home for the winter by looking for cracks, leaks and imperfections, we can also weatherproof our relationships, even our lives, by doing the very same thing. Essentially, weatherproofing means that you are on the careful lookout for whats needs to be fixed and repaired. It's finding the cracks and the flaws of life, and either to fix them, or at least point them out to others. Not only does this tendency alienate you from other people, it makes you feel bad, too. It encourages you to think about what's wrong with everything and everyone- what you dont like. So, rather than appreciating our relationships and our lives, weatherproofing encourages us to end up thinking that life isn't all it's cracked up to be. Nothing is ever good enough the way it is.

In our relationships, weatherproofing typically plays itself out like this: You meet someone and all is well. You are attracted to his or her appearance, personality, intellect, sense of humor , or some combination of these traits. Initially, you not only approve of your difference with this person, you actually appreciate them. You might even be attracted to the person, in part because of how different you are. You have different opinions, preferences, tastes and priorities.

After a while, however, you begin to notice little quirks about your new partner, that you feel could be improved upon. You bring it to their attention. You might say, "You know, you sure have a tendency to be late" or "I've noticed you don't read very much". The point is, you've begun what inevitably turns into a way of life- looking for and thinking about what you dont like about someone, or something isnt quite right.

Obviously, an occasional comment, constructive criticism or helpful guidance isn't cause for alarm. Occasional harmless comments have an insidious tendency to become a way of looking at life.

When you are weartherproofing another human being, it says nothing about them-but it does define you as someone who needs to be critical.

Whatever you have a tendency to wearther proof you relationship , certain aspects of your life, or both, what you need to do is write off weartherproofing as a bad idea. As the habit creeps into your thinking, catch yourself and seal your lips. The less often you weatherproof your partner or your friends, the more you'll notice how super your life really is!

I have been weartherproof-ing all my life and i guess it's about time to stop and really live life! My life has really been super ever since! We really dont have to be so critical and hard on ourselves all the time. It's perfectly fine to be imperfect. =)

Movies to catch on Valentine’s day

Okay.. Vday is getting really really close as the days goes by. To make date planning a lil easier here’s a list of movies which you could catch for Valentine ’s Day!

New in Town

It’s starred by Renee Zellweger. So it should be a good movie!

Synopsis: Lucy Hill (Renee Zellweger) is an ambitious, up and coming executive living in Miami. She loves her shoes, she loves her cars and she loves climbing the corporate ladder. When she is offered a temporary assignment - in the middle of nowhere - to restructure a manufacturing plant, she jumps at the opportunity, knowing that a big promotion is close at hand. What begins as a straightforward job assignment becomes a life changing experience as Lucy discovers greater meaning in her life and most unexpectedly, the man of her dreams (Harry Connick Jr.).

Look for a Star

If you’re looking for a romantic movie, this is it! Boy meets gal, fell deeply in love at first sight. Lotsa lovey dovey acts in it. It feels like high school all over again. Andy lau is so handsome and manly. Shu Qi is really pretty and adorable in this show I’m not a big fan of shu qi but she really did a good job in this movie. Go watch it with your special someone and I guarantee sparks will start flying all over. =)

Pink Panther 2

A movie that is just for laughs

Synopsis: When legendary treasures from around the world are stolen - including the priceless Pink Panther Diamond! - Chief Inspector Dreyfus (John Cleese) is forced to assign the bumbling French police detective, Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Steve Martin) to a team of international detectives and experts charged with catching the thief and retrieving the stolen artifacts.

Slumdog Millionaire

An award winning hindi movie that is a big hit.

Synopsis: Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from slums of Mumbai, is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" Arrested on suspicion of cheating, he tells the police the incredible story of his life on streets, and of the girl he loved and lost. But what is a kid with no interest in money doing on the show? And how is it he knows all the answers?

Changeling is a thriller which is based on a true story starring Angelina Jolie and John Malovich.

Synopsis: The film begins in 1928 LA and tells the true story of a woman who recognizes that the boy returned after her son's disappearance is an impostor. After confronting the city authorities, she is vilified as an unfit mother and branded delusional. The events were related to the Wineville Chicken coop murders, a kidnapping and murder case that was uncovered in 1928. Changeling explores themes such as disempowerment of women and corruption in political hierarchies.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I don’t know how this movie is gonna turn out. Just the fact that the main character is getting younger instead of aging is just plain weird. But since brad pitt is in it. I sure hope it’s gonna be good.

Synopsis: "I was born under unusual circumstances." And so begins "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," adapted from the story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards: A man, like any of us, who is unable to stop time. We follow his story set in New Orleans from the end of World War I, into the 21st century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man's life can be. Director by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett with Taraji P. Henson, Tilda Swinton, Jason Flemyng, Elias Koteas and Julia Ormond, "Benjamin Button," is a grand tale of a not so ordinary man and the people and places he discovers along the way, the loves he finds, the keys of life and the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time.

Enjoy it!

Celebrating Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s day is just a week away!! I know.. I know.. many will think that Valentine ’s Day is just a money making day where everything is way overpriced and commercialized. Everyday can be valentine’s day.. and it doesn’t have to be feb 14th. But what’s wrong with celebrating love on this very special occasion? It’s just once a year. Why not make it extra special?? *grin* It’s like xmas. You can give gifts and celebrate the birth of Christ everday.. why does it have to be Dec 25th? Just because it’s a special occasion, a special date.

I have always love valentines day and this year it falls on a Saturday! That means there’s no excuse for you guys to make it extra special for your girlfriends! Planning for a great Valentines Day doesn’t have to cost a bomb. Be creative and sensitive towards her wants and needs and make it a Valentine ’s Day to remember. But please don’t get your gfs/wives home appliances she always wanted. Coz it sure aint romantic and it kindda conveys the message that she’s only a home maker.

Here are some dos and don’ts for Valentines Day! So guys, take note!!

1. Don’t Forget that it’s valentine’s day! The least you could do is give her a peck on a cheek and say “I love you”. Now that’s not too much to ask for right?

2. Don’t Get Something Generic. Don’t just simply get something for the sake of getting a gift. Your gift does not have to be pricey but get something that is dear to the heart. Something that she has secretly wanted and never told any one and you’re the only special someone who knows about it. =) awwww..

3. Don’t be late for the date. Out of all dates just don’t be late on Valentine’s Day. You wouldn’t want to spoil the date after all the effort that you’ve put into right?

4. Do consider spreading gifts throughout the day. Rather than one big gift, you should try giving her a number of smaller gifts during the day. Maybe one gift at breakfast, leave one on the front seat of her car or in her medicine chest in the bathroom, one at work, and then another one on the front seat of her car before she leaves work. I guarantee she’ll remember this day for many years to come.

5. Just relax. While I know these ideas sound like a lot of work, it is important to not overdo it. Don't try to cram too much into the day or into the evening. A leisurely pace is an important component of making Valentine's Day great for your girl.

I wonder what’s in store for me on Valentine’s day?

Oh oh… just in case anyone wants a hint of what I would wanna have for vday.. Here’s my wish list. I don’t mind anonymous people sending gifts to me. LOL

I wouldn’t mind getting anything from this store even if its just a gift card.

Or anything that comes in a blue box =)

Or something cute like a pin Barbie beetle. =)
*Autumn is in all smiles and grinning are mad*

Or a bigggiee hand bouquet!

Hahaha.. Don’t mind me. It’s all just imaginary. I don’t even have a date to begin with. LOL. So girls, a girls nite out perhaps? =)

Happy Valentine’s day!

Homage to the Jade Emperor

The 9th day of Chinese New Year is a big night to the Chinese community especially the Hokkiens. Sugarcane is an essential item as offerings to the Jade Emperor. According to the ancient tradition, hundreds of years ago, people of the Hokkien province in China were under bondage to some demonic forces and didn’t have the opportunity to celebrate the Chinese New Year for years until one year, on the eighth night of the lunar new year, when the Jade Emperor of Heaven came and liberated them.

During the cosmic battle between the Jade Emperor and the demonic forces, the Hokkien hid in the sugarcane plantations. Following the victory over the demons and their liberation, the Hokkien people came out to celebrate the Chinese New Year for the first time in years. They wanted to give thanks to the Jade Emperor and also honour him on his birthday on the ninth day of the lunar new year but didn’t have anything to worship with. So, they used sugarcanes as their offering to the Jade Emperor. From that first worship ceremony, they continued with the tradition of using sugarcanes to thank the Jade Emperor on the eighth night of the lunar New Year
